JAPCC as the Department Head “Space Support to Operations”
On Tuesday, 24th May 2016, Air Commodore Madelein Spit signed the Appointment Letter that officially confirms the designation of the JAPCC as the Department Head (DH) for “Space Support to NATO Operations”.
As the DH for space, the JAPCC will be responsible for finding, coordinating and developing Training and Education (E&T) solutions in the space domain.
Background:
NATO “MC 0458/3 NATO ETEE Policy” unifies all efforts to develop effective, efficient and affordable education and training solutions.
The “Global Programming” approach sets the framework for a standardized and long-term solution to training and education for every training category, also known as “disciplines”. For each discipline, a Requirement Authority (RA – which identifies the present and future E&T requirements deriving from operational needs) and a Department Head (DH – which coordinates finding and developing E&T solutions for the E&T requirements) are appointed, while the management of Global Programming and its disciplines and the coordination and linkage between RA and DH is executed by JFT (E&T division Joint Force Trainer from SACT). SHAPE ACOS J3 is currently the RA for the “Space Support to NATO Operations” discipline.
In its role as the Space DH, the JAPCC identifies and coordinates adequate solutions that match the identified requirements by analyzing courses and trainings proposals from various nations and organizations like NATO, national Schools or Centers, Institutions and Academies, etc. Furthermore, the JAPCC will host the Annual Discipline Conference, an opportunity for all the partners from the “solution side” to meet and discuss the best answers they can provide to the E&T requirements.
With this additional task, the JAPCC continues to play a leading role in the future development of E&T in the domain of Space Support to Operations.
