1-4 December 2015 | JAPCC. The 4th “Multi-National Through-deck and Aircraft Carrier Crossdeck Operations Working Group” (MTACCOPS) met at the JAPCC on 1-4 December 2015. At the MTACCOPS, NATO Nations which operate multi-spot ship, aircraft carriers or aircraft models capable of operating from aircraft carriers work to solve common challenges and develop procedures for maritime fixed wing/tiltrotor aircraft crossdeck operations. A significant accomplishment this year was the Drafting Panel’s work toward publication of MPP-02 series, which will outline the procedures for aircraft embarkation and interoperability with NATO nations’ different types of aircraft carriers by providing an appropriate level of guidance. The focus of effort remains centered around MV-22 Osprey and AV-8B Harrier, which have both done some crossdeck operations to date; however, this WG is also outlining the procedures for crossdecking the F-35B Lightning with its impending arrival into the NATO operational inventory. The MCTACCOPS WG reports to the Maritime Standardization Board under NATO HQ’s Military Committee (MCMSB). Participation in the Meeting included representatives from France, Great Britain, Italy, Turkey, USA and the JAPCC.
