14th NATO Bi-SC Space Working Group Meeting and 2nd Annual Discipline Conference, 14-17 May 2018
Kalkar, Germany. The fourteenth meeting of the NATO Bi-SC Space Working Group (NBiSCSWG) took place at the JAPCC in Kalkar, Germany 14-16 May 2018. Formally established on 21 September 2012, the NBiSCSWG is led by the Strategic Commands and tasked by the Military Committee. It includes representatives from NATO nations and from the Space related organizations within the NATO structure. According to its mandate, the NBiSCSWG contributes to the development of the integration of Space within NATO by promoting collaboration amongst NATO and Space-faring nations. In addition, it contributes to the institutionalization of Space within the NATO Education, Training, Exercise and Evaluation (ETEE) programme, and to the identification and analysis of the relevant operational and planning requirements.
The NBiSCSWG meeting was followed, on 16 and 17 May, by the second Annual Discipline Conference (ADC) for the “Space Support in Operations” discipline, which shares the same list of participants, but is led by the JAPCC in its role as Department Head for Space. The aim of the ADC – which is part of the NATO Global Programming approach for Education and Training (E&T) in NATO – is to review, update and validate the training requirements for the “Space Support in Operations” discipline, to identify E&T gaps, and to delineate a way ahead for the further development of the discipline.
