1st Lieutenant Dr. Matthias Rößler is a Quantum Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the German Air Force and served as a Resident Fellow at the Joint Air Power Competence Centre (JAPCC) until July 2026. His work focuses on the impact and adoption of emerging disruptive technologies, combining his experience as a researcher, analyst, and strategist with political and defence perspectives. He currently serves as a research scientist and technology advisor for the European Commission’s Quantum Flagship Initiative, and as a quantum SME to the German Armed Forces and NATO. 1st Lt Rößler holds master’s degrees in physics and materials science, and a PhD in experimental condensed matter physics from RWTH Aachen University and the University of Cologne.
